Domain Names
Think of domain names, as your unique web site address. The domain name is your property and once it has been registered, you can add services such as email and web hosting.
For Example:
Domain name - wwswebservices.com
Web space - www.wwswebservices.com
Email Address - yournames@wwswebservices.com
A domain name can be composed of up to sixty three characters depending on the suffix (.com or .co.uk etc). The only other characters that a domain name can contain, other than the alphabet, is hyphens, however the domain name cannot start or end in a hyphen.
Below is an example of the different types of the most common domain names that can be purchased from WWS Webservices.
.co.uk .info
.com .org.uk
.net .biz
.me.uk .tv
.ltd.uk .plc.uk
.org
For a ltd.uk, or plc.uk domain you need to have following:
The name of the domain must be identical to the actual company name. No variations are allowed.
The company registration number must have been entered in its entirety, including the preceding '0'. For Scottish domains the 'SC' must also be included.
For more information about the rules and restrictions for ltd.uk and plc.uk domains look at the www.companieshouse.gov.uk web site.
For a .uk domain names you receive a certificate confirming you are the registrant of that domain name. This certificate typically takes up to six months to be issued to you and comes directly from Nominet UK via WWS Webservices.
If you wish to check your domain has been registered, you can do a search.
For all other domain names, certificates are not issued, however if you perform a search for your domain name, you are able to check the registrant details for that domain name.
WWS Webservices register all domain names in your name and contact details, therefore making you the registrant of that particular domain name. The domain name remains your property as long as it is in paid status.
Your domain name, if purchased with WWS Webservices, will be registered for 2 years, unless otherwise stated when applying to purchase a Domain Name.
An annual fee is required to keep your domain name registered for another year. A letter will be sent out to you 60 days before renewal informing you that your domain name is due for renewal. If the renewal fee is not paid then your domain name will expire, therefore increasing the risk of you losing your domain name.
You can perform a search for your domain name to look up your renewal date.
There are several reasons why a ltd.uk or plc.uk domain you have just registered may not be active:
The name of the domain must be identical to the actual company name. No variations are allowed. The company registration number must have been entered in its entirety, including the preceding '0'. For Scottish domains the 'SC' must also be included.
